"GREEN" TIPS
Using sustainable products is one way MedICS contributes to making our environment more "green". Our chemicals do not contain VOCs (volitile organic compounds) and are environmentally friendly.

- WATER CONSERVATION STARTS AT HOME!
The hot days of summer are upon us, and in Texas, many area lakes are reporting below average water tables.
We can all do our part in helping to conserve water consumption!
- Consider using a rain barrel to collect run-off water from the roof line during storms. Just a few minutes of collecting rain can fill up a 55 gallon container. Rain barrels are easy to make and many local cities give the barrels away upon completion of a water conservation class.
- After bathing, use the soapy bath water to water outside and indoor plants. We keep a 5 gallon pail handy to dip out used water. Soap is an excellent organic fertilizer, so not only will you be saving water, but will be fertilizing as well.
- Water your lawn once every 7-10 days, but at a rate of 1" per watering. Most yards don't need any more water than 1" per 10 days.

ORGANIC GARDENING
The Heeth household's yard and garden has been organic for almost 10 years. We put no chemicals on our yard, but we have the greenest grass on the block! Here's what we do:
- Natural fertilizer: Use 10 pounds of dried molasses per 1000 sq ft of yard instead of chemical fertilizer. Apply 3-4 times a year. Molasses jump starts the organic activity in soil. Healthy soil = healthy, green grass
- Kitchen scraps/waste: Fruit and vegetable peelings are thrown into our garden beds. After 2-3 days, we lightly turn the beds. Promotes earthworm activity which aereates the soil, leaving worm castings as natural fertilizer.
- Aphids: Getting aphids on your trees and scrubs? As the sun is going down, spray a mixture of 2 tablespoons of liquid dish soap to 1 quart of water directly on the plants. It makes the plant slippery and the aphidsM can't hold onto the plant.
- Bare, brown spot in the grass? A quick greening solution is to take 1 can of beer, mixed with 1 cup of household ammonia, along with 1 cup of dish soap. Mix these in a large bucket and drench the spot with the mixture. The grass will begin greening rapidly and it's amazing how good this mixture smells!
